Hernandez late 1700's Puerto Rico
« on: January 02, 2010, 08:25:46 PM »
Hello everyone.

I like the look of this new Message Board. I am currently researching my Hernandez ancestors from Peñuelas. I have gotten as far as 1813 and stuck on a Tomas Hernandez and Maria Martinez. There are no surviving records for Peñuelas before 1813 and I have been unable to find records for this family in other nearby towns. Although Nieves is my surname, Hernandez is my paternal lineage. My greatgrandfather Martin Nieves was the son of a Damian Hernandez and Juana Paula Nieves. His parents were not married so we are all Nieves from there on. I have my Y-DNA results from genetree.com which turned out to be haplogroup R1a1-M17. I am hoping to connect to others researching Hernandez in Peñuelas to see if together we can move our research further.

Later,

Martin Nieves Morales
Springfield, MA

Not to Hernandez but to Nieves.  My cousins mother was Edelmira Nieves, she was in mayaguez in 1937, but I don't know which town was her birth town.  You could write to my cousin at, manuelbadea@hotmail.com, she was his mother, he would know the town where she was born.

I was able to find Tomas Hernandez and Maria Martinez in Utuado. That is where their children were baptized in the late 1700's (1788-1801). I have been unable to find any record that names Tomas' parents. There really aren't many records for Utuado for this time period.
